The Sydney University Veterinary Teaching Hospital (SUVTH) is supporting a great cause by offering homeless and disadvantaged people access to quality veterinary care for their beloved pets. This was founded in an effort to support these people and their furry companions as many are unable to fund even the most essential of treatments to improve the health and wellbeing of their pets.
The SUVTH has partnered with BaptistCare in an effort to establish HopeStreet which is a pop-up pet clinic. This clinic operates once a month in Woolloomooloo and is staffed by volunteers, clinicians, veterinary nurses and students from the Faculty of Veterinary Science.
There is currently a great need for centres such as HopeStreet all across the country, as these pets are among the most vulnerable due to their owners not being able to afford the basic medical services. According to Dr Jess Talbot, there last visit to HopeStreet ???saw 27 pets in two-and-a-half hours. There are so many animals needing care.???
Currently, HopeStreet is trying to raise funds in order to see more vulnerable pets than they already are seeing. January of 2017 they reached their first goal of $12,500 which has allowed them to continue their fantastic work; however donations are always accepted in order for the vulnerable pets to get treated and protected. These fantastic volunteers are able to save the lives of these beloved pets through funding for essential vaccinations, tick and flea protection, and medications to ease the effects of conditions like arthritis and chronic skin disease.
