Hey there good lookin???

The Persian cat is an impressive looking creature with its long and luxurious coat that comes in many variants and colours. Their coat colours can be divided into the following categories; solids, silver/golden, smoke/shaded, tabby, particolor, bicolor and Himalayan. This isn???t the breed for the faint hearted or time poor, as they require daily grooming. They have a large and strong frame and are a brachycephalic breed.

Brachycephalic

means that their face appears to be ???pushed in???. Brachy means shortened and cephalic means head, so basically brachycephalic breeds have a short face, because of their shorter bones and anatomy. This is of concern for breathing conditions, which is why registered breeders will pay particular attention to the history of these issues in the bloodlines.

The Persian is a delightful companion and is known for its easy going, sweet personality. Persian???s are affectionate and get along well with other pets and humans. While the daily grooming can be of a concern to cat owners, many Persians enjoy grooming and consider is a good time to bond with their owner.

Ask your Veterinarian: Brachycephalic cats will not necessarily have breathing or eye discharge concerns, but ask your vet about them so you know how to deal with it if you do come across them. Also talk to your veterinarian about kidney and heart conditions than can affect Persians, so you can provide the best environment and food for their needs.
