Nine foods that are bad for pets

August 7th, 2012

Many human foods are unsuitable for animals and can cause health problems if eaten, so think twice before giving your pet a titbit or treat. Here are some bad-uns???

Avocado

HAM, FATTY MEATS OR RAW MEAT

Can lead to an inflamed pancreas. The high salt content can cause stomach upsets. Raw meat has been linked to toxoplasmosis in cats.

BONES

They can splinter or lodge in the intestinal tract of dogs and cats with disastrous results.

CHOCOLATE AND SWEETS

Contain theobromine, which causes increased heart rate and constriction of arteries in pets. Chocolate is toxic for pets.

MILK/CHEESE

Many pets are lactose intolerant and can develop diarrhoea if given milk.

AVOCADO

Contains the substance persin, which can affect heart, lungs and other tissues, causing vomiting, diarrhoea and worse.

GRAPES/RAISINS

Although the toxic substance in grapes and raisins is unknown, it can cause kidney failure in animals.

WALNUTS AND MACADAMIA NUTS

Usually found in biscuits and sweets, they have caused weakness, depression, vomiting, tumours and hypothermia in dogs.

ALCOHOL

Drinks and food products containing alcohol can cause liver damage as well as vomiting, diarrhoea and breathing difficulties.

SPICY FOOD

Can lead to vomiting and digestive problems in dogs and cats.

Actually thats not true a raw meat diet is the best thing for your cats and dogs. Toxoplasmosis occurs rarely and only if you dont use quality fresh meat or dont even store it properly..Before cats and dogs became pets what did they survive on for thousands of years?
